Welcome to this week’s edition of Open Tabs, where I share my recent reads, current obsessions, and media consumptions every Sunday!
Spent a few days at the lake this week and did not read a single page. But I did drink lots of coffee, see a double rainbow, dabble in bird-watching, and spend quality time with my family.
In case you missed it, I sent another issue of my Notes, Quotes, and Reflections series last week about The Anthropologists by Aysegual Savas. I’m working on more books for this series so I’m hoping to send out 1 or 2 per month.
Reading [Books]
Here’s what I’ve finished lately:
Exteriors by Annie Ernaux
I’m slowly making my way through Ernaux’s work and liked this one a lot. Simple vignettes and observations around the city.
The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar
This was a completely random audiobook pick to use up the rest of my Spotify hours. A fairytale-esque novella about sisters and magic. It was an enjoyable listen while cleaning, but not something I would typically be drawn to.
Grief is for People by Sloane Crosley
A short memoir about the sudden loss of a friend, with a dose of the New York publishing world, wrapped in a slightly-sardonic bow.
The Ardent Swarm by Yamen Manai
An allegorical Tunisian novella about a man and his beehive, chronicling life in a small North African town after revolution, satirizing the “arrival of democracy”.

Marseille by Ayseugal Savas (The New Yorker)
Clarice Lispector: Madame of the Void (The Paris Review)
