Welcome to this week’s edition of Open Tabs, where I share my current reads, recent obsessions, and media consumptions every Sunday!
Hi, hello, we’ve reached another Sunday. I’m very much in listening mode right now, so I’ve got lots of music and podcasts for you. Enjoy!
This week’s Thursday letter:
Reading [Books]
I’m still working my way through the books I mentioned last week, plus I read The Hour of the Star by Clarice Lispector. Her writing just makes so much sense to me!
Reading [Online]
I’m reading the context behind the images I shared in this week’s Thursday letter, over on The Public Domain Review (I love this site). Spiritualism is a particularly interesting topic to me at the moment.
Also, this essay by Sophie Haigney about Joan Didion, San Francisco, and wildfires.
I am obsessed with fires, and winds, and weather of all kind. I read Didion in the middle of the night. I buy myself some lamps at Ikea. I begin to try to assemble a life, precariously, in a house on a hill in a city on the edge, the end, of the world.
Watching [YouTube]
The Story of the Ghost Story (BBC Four)
I stumbled across this random YouTube channel filled with old TV programs about gothic tales and ghost stories. Next up, I want to watch this adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s The Breakthrough.
Listening [Music]
I’ve listened to so much good stuff lately, so I added a few things to the Open Tabs playlist to give you a little taste.
Plus, here are a couple of EPs I’ve been listening to.
Listening [Podcast]
This episode of Rehash about Party Girl — I have recommended this movie a million times, and I will continue to do so!
This episode of endless thread about the “digital cage”
This episode of LARB about pessimism.
This episode of 99% Invisible about the LA River.
This episode of death//sentence about Termush.
